Arlen Specter changes his team colors.

Arlen Specter announced today that he would be switch hitting for the democratic team. That’s all fine and well, but let’s be honest about the reason. Arlen here, along with two other senators, voted for a bill that he didn’t even read and was so large that we are just now figuring out all the details, then tried to defend his actions to fiscally conservative republicans. He then insulted his party, and the people that vote for him, and now is just figuring out that was a bad idea. The people of his fine state backed another republican in the primaries, and like a baby he is throwing a tantrum.
The alternative? Switch sides and tout his ridiculous actions in approving the spendulous bill as proof that he is the guy for the job on the democratic side. Let’s be very clear. At this point, this is not about party affiliation, or principles. This is about a guy that thinks that he is entitled to remain in his job, and will do anything, even abandon his own principles, to keep it.
This is the problem in Washington today. He is a guy who honestly believes that the people of Pennsylvania are in debt to him for his service. He insulted the republicans that voted for him, and the people that have already given millions in campaign donations by saying that he will not be thrown out of office by “Those people” Well, Those people are actually the authority on who goes to Washington, and who is out of a job. The people in Washington need to realize that we keep people in the senate based on merit, not entitlement. If you do the will of the people of your state, you keep your job. If not, it’s the unemployment line for you. Just like every other person in America, he is not special. He doesn’t get to decide whether he stays in the senate. The voters do.
Where is the loyalty to the people? Especially the ones who have given him money, because they thought he represented their values. And, why is he allowed to keep the money that was given to him by people who thought he believed in the principles he touted? He needs to give the money back. If he doesn’t the people who donated should demand it back. He is an opportunist and a cheat, and he should hand his credentials in immediately. But that’s just my opinion.
